Vikings season 6 might be the show's last run on the History Channel. However, fans of the historical fiction should be in for a few more shocks and surprises when the series returns for its final installment.

The cast and crew are now back at work on the set of Vikings season 6. Viewers might be shocked to know, however, that Alicia Agneson (Freydis) is still going to be part of the series.

At the end of Vikings season 5, viewers watched as Agneson's character was murdered by her own husband, Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen), because she betrayed him. But according to Digital Spy, the Freydis might have survived that attack since the actress just posted an Instagram Story to reveal that she's working on Vikings season 6.

In January, History Channel confirmed that the sixth and final run of Vikings will return to the network at the end of the year. There will be 20 episodes to the final season, as per TV Line.

But while this might seem like bad news to fans, executive producer Michael Hirst said that History Channel and MGM are in the middle of talks about a potential spinoff. He told Entertainment Tonight that, essentially, the network hasn't technically canceled the series since it's always been a plan to bring a new story to the table, after Vikings season 6.

"That's where we had arranged to end it," Hirst said. "But because it's such a big show and because it's so popular, there's a very big chance that you could call Vikings: Part 1 that there'll be a Vikings: Part 2."

Hirst also doesn't want to call the next show a spinoff, as he told Variety. He said that the story will still be very much connected to the original saga but it will have new characters that fans will love just as much as the first six chapters.

But the development of Vikings: Part 2 is still in its early stages. There have been talks of a potential series starring Rollo (played by Clive Standen). Fans speculate that Rollo's story will involve the Saxons and the battle between Alfred the Great and Ivar the Boneless.

The Vikings spinoff may also potentially bring in William the Conqueror as the timeline is just about right. So, perhaps a detailed story on Rollo's life and his encounters with William would be in order.
