Samsung just dropped a bombshell of a device with its Samsung Galaxy Fold at the Galaxy Unpacked launch, Wednesday, February 20, 2019, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of its Galaxy S line of smartphones.
It may not have been the anniversary model, but the Samsung Galaxy Fold was undoubtedly the center of attention. This whole new revolutionary device packs like a regular sized smartphone and stunningly unfolds into a 7.3-inch tablet, in a way no one would have thought possible, especially with the seamless way it stays open when viewing media as a tablet.
That is, no one except those thinkers and tinkers at Samsung. The screen stays intact when bent without any adverse results to the screen. This is because of the Samsung Galaxy Fold Infinity Flex Display, making it possible to bend the screen without any apparent damage.
When the screen is folded, the Samsung Galaxy Fold discreetly transforms into a 4.6-inch smartphone screen from the front and just like any other smartphone with a back camera set up. Well not just like any other smartphone really, just seems like it.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold opens many possibilities for utility at work or at play. When one needs it as a smartphone, it is compact and sleek. When there is a need for a bigger workspace or for movie night on the go, one only needs to ease it out. And viola! Just like magic it opens into a wider screen.
What is more, there is no need to worry about the device suddenly folding up while in tablet mode. The engineers at Samsung developed a hinge on the Samsung Galaxy Fold that contains numerous interlocking gears that allow the tablet to stay open securely.
What is more---yes there's more---the Samsung Galaxy Fold displays instantly what app was last open on the smartphone screen and enlarges that when the tablet screen is unfolded. The device is also capable of multitasking; for instance, it can perform a web search while playing a video as well as sending a message.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold reveal was an astonishing introduction since there was no inkling of its present form at the Samsung San Francisco Developer Conference on November 7, 2018, where it was shown for the first time. The expected release of this new device is expected to be sometime April 2019.
In a device with this array of features, six cameras may not come as a surprise. The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with 12 GB RAM, a 7-nm, 64-bit, Octa-core processor, understandably whopping 4,380-mAh battery.
As for the price, it is not official as yet, but it is pegged at around £1,500, possibly more. For the capabilities the Samsung Galaxy Fold packs, it will be worth every pound.
As per the Samsung Twitter page, "Ten years after the first Galaxy, we didn't just change the shape of the phone, we changed the shape of tomorrow."
