Nicollette Sheridan will exit Dynasty after over a year of playing the character of Alexis Carrington. The actress has decided to leave the series as she reportedly wants to spend more time with her terminally ill mother.

TVLine first reported about this, in which CW and CBS Television Studios said in a statement that Sheridan will exit Dynasty because she needs to focus on some personal matters and fulfill her family responsibilities. The statement added they considered the actress as a valuable asset to the series and wish her success in the future. An insider also revealed Sheridan would probably make her last appearance as Alexis this coming March, and her role might be recast as well.

In an interview Entertainment Tonight, the actress said she enjoyed working on Dynasty reboot and reprising the iconic role of Alexis. However, she decided to leave the show as the most important thing to her right now is to spend more time with her mother. Sheridan also said she's grateful to David Stapf (CBS) and Mark Pedowitz (The CW) as they allow her to come back to Los Angeles and be with her.

The actress played the role of Alexis - the character made famous by Joan Collins in the original eighties ABC series - for over the year. Sheridan joined halfway through in the season 1, which actually made her first major TV role since playing Edie Britt on Desperate Housewives back in 2009. Sheridan's exit on Dynasty was followed by the previous departure of James Mackay (Steven) and Nathalie Kelley (Cristal.)

In a previous interview, Sheridan talked about joining the show and her character. The actress said Alexis is a "force to be reckoned with" and "driven by power and money". She also revealed that, as an actress, she had a hard time portraying her character. She said Alexis is quite obtuse, like from being power monger to being big kind-hearted to her kids. So, when everything was filled in between, there's nothing she can or can't do.

Meanwhile, Dynasty has been renewed for a third season at The CW. While the release date was not yet revealed, but some speculated when it will possibly come back. The first season aired back on October 11, 2017, while season 2 premiered on October 12, 2018. So, it's possible the Dynasty season 3 will be released by October of this year.

Some of the casts expected to return this upcoming season include Elizabeth Gillies (Fallon Carrington), Grant Show (Blake Carrington), Alan Dale (Joseph Anders), and Robert Christopher Riley (Michael Culhane).
