NBC renewed Dick Wolf's three One Chicago shows, but there is no news if there will be Law & Order: SVU Season 21. The series already made a mark when it returned for Season 20 as television's longest-running primetime drama, so would it continue to make history?
It is a big achievement for everyone in front and behind the camera, if Law & Order: SVU Season 21 comes. It is also a manifestation of everyone's hard work. Fans can see more cases to solve and mysteries to analyze that somehow reflect society.
So will there be Law & Order: SVU Season 21? According to CarterMatt, the show is different from other Dick Wolf series. It is more of a thing of its own compared to One Chicago shows that have been renewed at the same time. Its renewal also doesn't need a lot of talking. They only have to assure that the cast is complete, there are funds, and how many episodes they are going to work out.
The current season has an average of 0.90 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.32 million viewers. Compared to the previous season, it is 28 percent and 27 percent lower, respectively, per TV Series Finale. But, the coming of Law & Order: SVU Season 21 is still possible as this rating is still pretty good for a series in today's world.
Until the team behind the series decides to cancel the show, the hopes are high that there will be Law & Order: SVU Season 21. The cast and crew are determined to continue solving cases and helping others with another season or even as long as possible.
Since the start, it still has the same lead. Mariska Hargitay, who plays the role of Olivia Benson since the beginning, is even keen to continue beyond Law & Order: SVU Season 21. "I'm in it for the long haul," the 55-year-old star told Digital Spy. "I said, 'You keep writing like this, I'll stay for 25 years'."
Hargitay feels grateful for the show, so she has no reason to leave. The ER star went on to say that when she started to play Olivia's role, she didn't want to be another female character in a man's world. All she wanted to do was do it the way she would, all by herself. "With all of my badassness and empathy and vulnerability and power and standing in it," she added.
So, expect to see Hargitay again if Law & Order: SVU Season 21 ever comes out. Fans also have to wait for the NBC's official announcement about the renewal.
