After the (almost) month-long mid-season break, NCIS has now returned. The thirteenth episode of Season 16 was aired last February 12 on CBS. And fans can’t get enough of it.

Naval Criminal Investigative Service or NCIS has become one of the top-rated American TV series in recent years. With over 16 million viewers weekly, the series is listed as one of the most-watched series in the United States. However, fans are becoming weary as time passes by because NCIS has been on air for almost two decades now. And this caused a lot of speculations that the series might already call it a day after the current season.

The lead actor, Mark Harmon, who plays Leroy Jethro Gibbs, is also the executive producer of the show. And according to People magazine, the actor confirmed in an interview that NCIS would not leave the scene anytime soon. He also added that he thought of it at times. But, “we’re not there yet.”

Mark Harmon also shared that NCIS might end if and only if the writers, along with the actors, would no longer know what to do with the series. And if this happens, then we may all ‘call it a day,’ the actor confirms.

NCIS first aired on screen in 2003. Although the first few years treated the show as an underdog, it came as a surprise to the whole production that their audience kept on growing after the sixth season. Fast forward to today, the series has become unstoppable. “We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Mark,” says Sean Murray, co-star of Mark Harmon.

Sean Murray plays the role of Tim McGee, which is only a recurring role during the first season that turned into one of the main characters as the second season commenced. He exclusively shared with Country Living that Mark is a "very special individual." The co-star also added that Mark Harmon is a real actor and he’s really good at it. And thanks to him, NCIS is still growing strong than ever.

As it happens, Sean Murray met Mark Harmon when he was 15. According to the on-screen Tim McGee, meeting the co-star during his teenage years left an impression to him.

Now, the two stars believe that NCIS, like all other things, would come to an end. But even so, Mark Harmon and Sean Murray ensure that the fans would not see it happening anytime soon. And although there is no confirmation yet about the seventeenth installment, there are still two episodes left for the current season.
