When Emmy Rossum announced last year that she'd already leave her Shameless family after nine years, a lot of fans are really surprised with her decision. In her lengthy Facebook post, the actress shared how grateful she is for the nine wonderful years that she had with the whole production and cast.
For some personal reason, it is quite safe to say that Emmy Rossum is exploring her maximum potential in the industry of showbiz. And while the decision is already final, numerous Shameless fans are eager to learn how her character, Fiona Gallagher, will exit the storyline in a very subtle and acceptable way. This got a lot of fans thinking, especially that her character is one of the most integral roles in the show.
In the first few episodes of Shameless season 9, it is still difficult to imagine how Fiona will leave her family. But as the story goes and proceeds, the bigger picture is becoming much clearer.
As you may notice, the last few episodes of the current season largely focus on Fiona's storyline. In episode 12, You'll Know The Bottom When You Hit It; it broadly depicts Fiona's struggle with her long-time drinking issues. Not to mention that she is facing real jail time due to an assault to which she would be sentenced if she would not find a job.
Later on, she recovered from her drinking issues as she started to attend AA meetings. She even got herself a job which makes things much clearer now than ever as to how Fiona will leave her family.
In the last episode titled Lost, Max revealed that one of Fiona's real estate investments paid off to which he offered her to buy her out for $100,000. So, having this sum of cash makes it easier for Fiona to start a new life outside her family and her town.
According to Den of Geek, episode 14 of season 9 titled Found (which is the season finale) will show how Fiona would decide for her future. So, this could mean that she'll either move out from all the toxicity around her and move to a new town or she'll invest more on real estate and buy herself a new life on her own. But either way, she'll be certainly far away.
Alongside Fiona's ultimate farewell, the season finale will also show what the rest of Gallaghers would do to Frank's current situation while Debbie and Carl move on from their respective issues.
Shameless season 9 finale will air on March 10. As for the next season, there are already rumors about its tenth installment. However, there is not enough confirmation yet as to when it will arrive.
