Netflix dropped the first look to its upcoming anime series Ultraman. The trailer teased action-packed scenes fans are about to witness where the high school student Shinjiro Hayata takes over his father's role as the Japanese superhero.
The new Ultraman trailer showed if Shinjiro could accept his fate as the next Ultraman. It also explored if he could hone its power and take the responsibility that comes with being everyone's hero. It also revealed the "alternative depictions" of the character which fans are about to see if they would help or hinder his mission to defeat the enemies, per Hypebeast.
In the first Ultraman episode, viewers can expect to see the introduction of Shinjiro and the way he will learn his new skills to fight Bemular. From the looks of it, Engadget reported the new series is set a few years after the 1960s' Japanese live-action series' events.
In the new Ultraman, Shinjiro has to fuse with the Giant of Light in order to transform into Ultraman after he takes the role from his father. This event will happen when the new set of invading aliens arrive on the scene after the time of peace. The show will also feature other Ultraman types, who may have a hard time to accept Shinjiro as one of them before they help him face the enemies.
It has been a lot of years since the original Ultraman takes place. It is widely believed that the Giant of Light has left the earth and returned to its home planet. But it will make its return when Shinjiro discovers that his father is the real Ultraman and will take the mantle as the new hero on earth.
According to What's on Netflix, Ultraman is one of the most important franchises in Japanese history. As Netflix acquires the rights to make the series' adaptation, it only proves that the streaming service seriously wants to expand its anime content. The show has been "massively influential" throughout the history of Japanese kids' shows. It even paves the way for future "Tokusatsu and Kaiju" series.
Ultraman is said to have the same level of influence Godzilla has on the pop culture. It also marks the beginning of superhero shows like Power Rangers, Kamen Rider, and Big Bad Beetleborgs.
Netflix has yet to announce the number of episodes Ultraman will have, but it is expected to feature 10-13 episodes. The anime series will be dropped on the streaming service on April 1.
