There is no denying that How To Train Your Dragon is considered as one of the most popular American computer-animated action fantasy films today. Based on the books written by Cressida Cowell, the franchise has amassed a significant number of followings since the first film's premiere in 2010. Now, with the undeniable success of the third installment titled How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, many fans are speculating about the possibility of having another installment. So, will there be a How To Train Your Dragon 4 movie? We'll see.

In June 2014, composer John Powell shared the possibility of the franchise having four, instead of three, installments before its official conclusion. According to Powell, while the original plan is to only have a trilogy, the third movie might be split into two, making How To Train Your Dragon 4 a huge prospect.

"I saw Dean [DeBlois] in Cannes, we had a premiere of the film there, and he was very merry and a bit drunk and he sort of knew about [How to Train Your Dragon] 3 and I think it was mentioned to him by Jeffrey [Katzenberg] that maybe they would do 4," Powell told Collider in an interview. Even Jeffrey Katzenberg, who is the head of DreamWorks Animation, is very open to the idea of having How To Train Your Dragon 4 due to the success of its previous installments. Financially-wise, this could be beneficial to the film producers and distributors.

"Kung Fu Panda actually has 6 chapters to it, and we've mapped that out over the years. How To Train Your Dragon is at least three: maybe more, but we know there are a least three chapters to that story," Katzenberg said in 2010. "There are actually 8 books... right now, today, we know that there are three for sure that we want to tell and there may be more," he added. However, Katzenberg revealed that there were no official talks about the How To Train Your Dragon 4 film at the time.

Despite this, director Dean BeBlois teased that How To Train Your Dragon 4 might not happen at all as he would like to stick to the three-film plan. He said that his dedication to completing the story in three movies is pretty strong and intact. But, he did open about the possibility of having spinoffs after the third installment.

It should be noted, however, that neither Paramount Pictures nor DreamWorks Animation has not confirmed anything as of yet. So, avid followers of Hiccup and Toothless should take these rumors about How To Train Your Dragon 4 lightly until everything is proven true and correct.
