Six weeks after The Detour season 3 aired on TBS, the hit comedy series was renewed for its fourth installment. And although it's been almost a year since the renewal was announced, there is still not that much information about its premiere. All we know is that co-creator and lead actor, Jason Jones shared that the shooting ended last October. Accordingly, fans are speculating that the show will finally air sometime in the spring of 2019.
As for the plot, it is believed that there will be no dramatic changes with the dynamics of The Detour. And as it appears, the Parker family will still be on the run. But this time, the family will be running after someone instead of only running because someone is chasing them.
This is pretty sensible because Delilah ran away from her family on the final moments of season 3. Fans who were able to watch the whole third installment know how Delilah was getting tired and fed up from her father, Nate Parker's plans of running for - well, who knows when. And since the family has no idea at all where she is right now, then it only fits for the rest of them to run after her in season 4.
In an interview with Jason Jones earlier this year, the series co-creator and lead actor shared with Metro how The Detour season 4 will run its course. According to the star, the upcoming season will mostly focus on finding Delilah. Consequently, it's going to be a "Where-in-the-world-is-our-daughter-kind of a season," he added.
And using "world," this means that the rest of the Parker family will head to different parts of the globe. The countries that were mentioned include Japan, Russia, Iran, and Tibet. Jason Jones even revealed that the first episode of the fourth season would feature three different countries covering parts of Tibet, Paraguay, and New Zealand. So, the star concluded that The Detour is not an ordinary and average sitcom that you will see on television.
All in all, these are the only revelations that were spilled about the upcoming season of the show. About Jones' statements, he explained that if the fans knew where they are going with the plot, then it's not going to be a comedy at all. And this is because, for him, "comedy is all about surprises." Therefore, the only way for the fans to know the story and plot is to wait for it to arrive on TBS.
