Fans have been waiting for the release of The Irregular At Magic High School season 2 for about five years now. The web novel series is written by Tsutomu Sato, and was later on adapted into anime series and was loved by many fans. Until now, there's still news about the official release date of the second installment.
Known in Japanese as Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, the first season The Irregular At Magic High School was very successful. 8-Bit Inc. produced a movie titled The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls The Stars, which was released on June 17, 2017. It tells the story of the two main characters following their first year of school where they met Kokoa - a survivor of an operation at a Naval base.
According to Otakukart, there have been several reports claiming The Irregular at Magic High School season 2 will air on April 5, 2019, but the outlet noted this is not true. There hasn't been any announcement from Madhouse regarding the official release date of the second season, but many fans speculated it might premiere by the fall of 2019. The production company reportedly stated the second installment was never made because of lack of source materials for the production.
The anime series follows the story of Tatsuya Shiba, an applicant of the Yotsuba Clan. He wants to be part of the Ten Master Clans - managing and governing Japan's magicians. The students were divided and put together by their magical abilities in courses after they are enrolled. For Tatsuya, his primary task is to be the bodyguard to his younger sister Shiba Miyuki - one of the best students of the academy. She gets enrolled as a first-course student and a potential candidate to succeed in the leadership of Yotsuba Clan.
Meanwhile, Tatsuya is considered as an amateur magician and was enrolled in the second course. Many considered him as irregular to the magic school because of his fighting abilities, technical knowledge, distinctive magic skills, and weak practical knowledge. People think he is not fit according to the school's rank, yet the siblings will eventually get used to the school. They will be facing different challenges and problems altogether. Tatsuya also needs to keep his childhood a secret to keep the status quo intact, as well as to protect his sister.
Since almost five years had already passed after the first season ended, Madhouse acquired the complete content to produce and release The Irregular at Magic High School season 2. It will reportedly include 13 episodes, instead of 26 like the first installment.
