Overlord Season 4's future remains up in the air. Madhouse, the studio behind the hit anime series, has yet to renew the show after the previous season ended in October 2018. So, will fans see another installment or the show is already canceled?
Fans will see the return of Ainz Ooal Gown/Momonga on Overlord Season 4. But, it will take a little while before it hits the small screen. Producers may have a hard time to connect the new season with the previous installment because the light novels' story doesn't properly connect with Season 3.
But if the writers manage to create a connection between its stories, then the production of Overlord Season 4 may finally begin. Knowing how Madhouse works, the studio will take its time to produce a new season of the anime series and will never rush anything.
To recall, in the previous season finale, Momonga revealed the reason why he was the "top of the world" by facing all the challengers. Now, the biggest challenge for Madhouse is to produce Overlord Season 4 based on how its story was written, per Monster and Critics.
The anime is based on the Japanese author Kugane Maruyama's Overlord light novel series. Its story started as a web novel in 2010, and then it turned to be a light novel when Kugane teamed up with "illustrator so-bin" in 2012.
The new light novels followed the web novel's plot but started to significantly change in Volume 10, which believed to be the starting point of Overlord Season 4. The Japanese publisher Enterbrain released Overlord Volume 13 in April 2018.
After that, Kugane earlier said he is about to unveil Overlord Volume 14 sometime this year. However, he is yet to reveal its exact release date. Also, the author will only drop one light novel every year, unlike the previous years. But as Volume 10 will be the new season's starting point, and the anime series usually covers three volumes in one season, the new installment has enough materials to use.
So from the looks of it, fans will not see Overlord Season 4 back to the small screen this year. The possible time that it will be out is on the next winter or summer of 2020, TV Date reported. But to be more precise, there are also assumptions that will be released next fall or in January 2021.
Anyhow, fans should take these assumptions with a grain of salt. Viewers should wait for Madhouse's official announcement and confirmation about Overlord Season 4's release.
