Who would have thought that what seemed to be a simple fight at the Burning Sun in January could trigger the revelation of a big scandal surrounding the nightclub? Now dubbed as the Burning Sun Gate, the used-to-be happy place for partygoers in the region is now facing controversies, from prostitution to drug use, hidden camera, and more, involving top celebrities like Seungri, powerful figures, and police, among others.
One of the most prominent names involved in the Burning Sun Gate controversy is Big Bang's Seungri. He is now facing different charges for violating the law on prostitution mediation and other actions related to the subject.
In a list made by Soompi, it revealed the names of the people who have something to do with the Burning Sun Gate and revealed their parts in the scandal. Since the controversy started, Seungri resigned as the nightclub's executive director. He also retired from the industry as YG Entertainment terminated his exclusive contract.
Seungri's business partner Yoo In Suk reportedly has a role in the chatroom, where they shared illegal hidden camera footages, lewd talks, and other activities. He resigned from his position as Yuri Holdings CEO after the Burning Sun Gate scandal. The nightclub's former employee Mr. Kim set up the hidden cameras to film illicit videos.
Jung Joon Young is also involved in the Burning Sun Gate. He is now charged for filming and spreading hidden camera videos. The star quit from the entertainment industry following his removal from 2 Days & 1 Night, Salty Tour, and 4 Wheeled Restaurant. His performance at Beautiful Mint Life 2019 also got canceled.
Although Yong Junhyung is not part of the chatroom, he saw the illegally hidden camera footages sent to him by Jung Joon Young. He also has participated in inappropriate conversations. After that, he reportedly left Highlight.
Actor Choi Jong Hoon is also investigated for his involvement in the Burning Sun Gate for sharing the unlawful videos. He is also suspected of using his connections to cover a drunk driving incident in 2016. He already announced his retirement from the industry and left his group F.T. Island.
Just like Yong Junhyung, CNBLUE's Lee Jong Hyun is not part of the chatroom after leaving it a few years ago. However, he still saw the footages sent by Jung Joon Young and participated in inappropriate conversations.
Burning Sun CEO Lee Moon Ho is now one of the suspects after he tested positive of drugs. He has been defending himself and Seungri from all the controversies since the beginning.
The police already hastened the probe in the Burning Sun. The Jakarta Post reported the country's ministers also promised to make a thorough investigation about the issue and give appropriate punishment. In fact, the Seoul Central Prosecutors' Office asked the Seoul court to issue Jung Joon Young a warrant of arrest and filed arrest warrants for Mr. Kim and Mr. Jang.
Jang is the one who reportedly assaulted Kim Sang Kyo, the whistleblower behind the Burning Sun Gate. So far, about 40 people are booked on drug-related charges, three of which have been arrested, and the investigation continues.
