Following a recent slew of announcements, Apple has also announced new iMacs for this year, promising that these will deliver outstanding performance compared to previous models. Read on for details.
Apple has announced five new iMac variants: two 21.5-inch and three 27-inch models, Inverse reported. The Cupertino tech giant promises that the new iMacs will deliver breathtaking speeds and even more lifelike visuals.
This year's iMacs make use of eighth and ninth-generation Intel processors for maximum computing power. A 21.5-inch iMac fitted with a 6-core eighth-gen Intel Core i7 processor can reach speeds up to 4.6 GHz. A 27-inch iMac, on the other hand, can be equipped with an 8-core ninth-gen Intel Core i9 processor to reach 5.0GHz.
All new iMacs are equipped with the new Radeon Pro 500X series graphics enabling them to produce extraordinary visuals. With 4GB dedicated VRAM, the 21.5-inch iMac's 4K Retina display explodes with vibrant color and life.
The 27-incher's 5K Retina display is even more stunning with a whopping 8GB of dedicated VRAM. This makes the top of the line variant the perfect choice for video editors, 3D Rendering, and for playing graphics-intensive video games such as "Rise of the Tomb Raider" or "F1 2017."
To further enhance the new iMacs' graphics performance, Apple has made Vega, the same graphics architecture found only on the iMac Pro, available to the new iMacs. Vega allows the GPU to perform better by doubling memory bandwidth, resulting in faster and better graphics processing.
With all this computing and graphics power, one has to worry about storage. Thankfully, Apple has that covered: Buyers have the option to choose up to 2TB SSD storage, or up to 3TB Fusion Drive storage. The latter comes standard on all 27-inch models and the pricier 21.5-inch model.
All new iMac models run on macOS Mojave and come with built-in tools and apps. The iMac even connects seamlessly with the iPhone, allowing users to receive a message on their iPhone XR and reply on the iMac, for example.
All of this computing power, graphics performance, storage space, and convenience features are safely housed in a slim, handsome chassis that has a minimal footprint, perfect for all sorts of offices, including small home offices.
The catch? The expensive selling price. The base model (lower-end 21.5-inch iMac with a 3.6GHz Quad-core processor and 1TB storage) already costs $1,299. The 27-inch iMac with 5K Retina display, 3.7GHz 6-core processor and 2TB storage costs $2,299. Beefing these up with added specs, and accessories can cost more than $5,000.
