Netflix has finally announced the official release date of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and many fans are excited about it. Aside from the announcement of its release date, the anime will reportedly have an all-new cast of voice actors. But, what are the reactions of the previous dub actors about this?
Neon Genesis Evangelion is an anime based on the manga of the same name, and it's popular in Japan and other countries as well. Netflix first announced it would bring the anime on the platform about four months ago, but fans haven't heard any news since then. But on Friday, the streaming giant revealed the release date of the anime via YouTube live stream - it will arrive on Netflix this coming June 21, 2019.
Over the past decades, Neon Genesis Evangelion fell into several right disagreements, and there hasn't been a legal way to watch the anime at all. So, many were confused about why it became Netflix Original, considering the fact it was produced in the 90s. The reason behind this is because the platform obtains the exclusive license to stream the anime around the world, so it doesn't need to produce the anime to make it an original. And now that it was brought in the platform, a lot of fans are happy about it.
Meanwhile, it was previously rumored Neon Genesis Evangelion would have an all-new cast of voice actors once it arrives on Netflix. While this was purely a rumor then, the speculations were confirmed by several voice actors. For instance, Amanda Winn Lee, who voiced Rei Ayanami, confirmed the news via Twitter. She said that aside from recasting their roles, they never had any intentions of auditioning them in the first place.
In another Facebook post, Tiffany Grant, who voiced Asuka Langley Sohryu, revealed she already knew months ago they will all be replaced. Her post seemed to confirm two things regarding its release on Netflix: the actors auditioned for their roles, and the original dub will no longer be available for streaming. And although many fans wished the original dub will be restored, it is still unclear whether Netflix will make it available or not.
Aside from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Netflix also revealed the lineup of many anime titles coming on the platform in 2019. So of the upcoming anime series include Ultraman, Rilakkuma and Kaoru, Dragon's Dogma, Ghost in the Shell and Super Crooks, as well as the second season of Kakegurui.
