It has been almost a decade since David Benioff and Dan Weiss first pulled off Game of Thrones, the televised version of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. And today, everyone's waiting for the arrival of Game of Thrones Season 8, the show's final season ever.

While the whole fandom is excited to know the finale, no one actually wants for the show to end. In fact, many fans thought that this HBO's top fantasy drama series will stay longer on air than just having eight seasons. This is because aside from the fact that the books are still ongoing and some of it are still unpublished, the popular writer himself, thinks that the show should not end yet.

During the red carpet of Game of Thrones Season 8, The Hollywood Reporter was able to catch a quick interview with the writer. And while asking about how he felt towards the final season premiere, this should not be the final season of the show, George R.R. Martin revealed. But even so, the upcoming season will still be the end of it all. "But here we are," he added.

Apparently, this is the end of Game of Thrones and there's no going back. But Martin contended that this is not yet the end for him. As it happens, he is still finishing the books as there are two more novels await the fans and readers of A Song of Ice and Fire.

Currently, he is focused more on finishing The Winds of Winter. He even revealed that he's in full isolation and there's no actual tell if he's been involved with Game of Thrones Season 8.

Alongside writing the novels, it has been partially revealed previously that he is working on with the "successor shows" of Game of Thrones. These shows are actually the spin-offs including the prequels and sequels to the main story. And the most apparent one that they are currently working on is the pilot of the prequel. Moreover, the show is believed to start its production once Game of Thrones Season 8 wraps up.

This upcoming prequel is believed to star Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse. As for the leads in production, Jane Goldman is chosen as the pilot's showrunner. Although David Benioff and Dan Weiss will no longer serve as the main runners, they will still remain as the executive producers of all Game of Thrones "successor shows."

All in all, Game of Thrones Season 8 might be truly the end. But for Goerge R.R. Martin, this is just the beginning.
