It has been almost a year since fans last saw Jackie (Tamsin Greig), Adam (Simon Bird), Martin (Paul Ritter), and the rest of the gang on the small screen, so fans are all waiting for Friday Night Dinner Season 6. It was in May 2018 when Channel 4 dropped the six-episode Season 5, which ended in June, but the network has yet to renew the series.

Channel 4 remains mum about either the making or ordering Friday Night Dinner Season 6. There is no even news or other details about it. So, will there be another season in the works or the network plans to cancel it?

The previous season only had six episodes to offer, thus it only ran for more than a month. Season 5 finale ended with a shock by killing off a beloved character, Jim's (Mark Heap) dog Wilson. A lot of fans expressed their sadness and anger over the pooch's death, but Jim planned to get another canine, and it might play out in Friday Night Dinner Season 6, per Metro.

Jim was left devastated seeing his lifeless dog, saying it was the only friend he got. The Goodmans felt sorry for Jim, although they were annoyed that Wilson often did his thing on their flowerbed. They helped Jim bury his best friend on his favorite spot and even let him put a big cross on the lawn for him.

Fans love Jim so much that they petitioned for a spin-off series centered on him and Wilson, as they would surely not see the beloved pooch in Friday Night Dinner Season 6 anymore. LADBible reported the Twitter world got filled with tweets that asked Channel 4 to give the two characters their own show.

A lot of fans even supported the request, retweeting, liking, and commenting on the origin post. As Channel 4 remains mum about Friday Night Dinner Season 6, it doesn't even talk about the viewers' request for a spin-off series.

In an interview with Digital Spy in 2016, Bird revealed Friday Night Dinner could go until Season 9, but it depends on the director and writer Robert Popper. "I could imagine there being series eight, or series nine, but we'll have to wait and see," he said. "It's totally up to Robert."

Friday Night Dinner first aired in 2011 on Channel 4. It became an award-winning series, featuring the best comedy artists like Bird and Tom Rosenthal as the feuding brothers Adam and Jonny, respectively. The show also featured Greig as their frustrated mother Ritter as their "oddball dad." If Friday Night Dinner Season 6 comes to life, fans would surely see the family's antics once again.

Although Channel 4 has yet to ask for Friday Night Dinner Season 6, fans and stars alike have high hopes that the show's story will continue. As it usually takes two years before the series got a new season, it might still be too early to see a renewal.
