There is a big chance New Amsterdam Episode 18, titled "Five Miles West," will be out next week as the show may release one episode after another until it officially ends. The new installment may shift its focus on the patients, instead of the medical professionals, as it tells a sad case of a sick kid, and Max's (Ryan Eggold) relationship with Helen (Freema Agyeman).
"Reynolds (Jocko Sims) struggles to help a young Cystic Fibrosis patient (guest star Lilly Knowles) with curious symptoms while Kapoor (Anupam Kher) finally comes face to face with Ella (guest star Dierdre Friel) after their awkward encounter," New Amsterdam Episode 18 official synopsis read, per TV Guide. "Meanwhile, Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) takes a major step in her personal life."
The show has proved itself that it is ready to go on full tilt and not hold anything back to tell a story in a bigger picture. Despite Max's cancer diagnosis, fans can still see him running down the hospital hallway in the middle of the night.
According to CarterMatt, Max is still trying to get better. All he needs is to take things easier and to make himself calm down, especially now that he has the opportunity to do so. In New Amsterdam Episode 18, fans may see him struggling to heal emotionally after what he went through in the previous episode.
As a doctor, Max surely wants to save the life of every patient. He also wants to turn their lives for the better, but it is a big impossibility. Max is a medical director and he finds it hard to go through the "life-or-death" implications of his profession. Although there are cases that he succeeds to help his patients, it will not always work like that.

Max used to share his secret with Helen, while the latter is also free to tell everything to him. From there, they have developed a close relationship that may turn into an intimate romance in New Amsterdam Episode 18.
