It is only a matter of days before Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres on HBO. But while the whole fandom can now nearly enjoy the last remaining few episodes of the overall saga, others, however, see it as the near end of the show. And as everyone knows it, Season 8 will serve as the final season of Game of Thrones.
But even so, HBO has been very proud to share that after Game of Thrones Season 8, there will new shows relating to the main plot of Game of Thrones. And about George R.R. Martin's words, these shows are what he blatantly refer to as "successor shows" since they are either prequel or sequel spin-offs to the main series.
For fans and viewers, including, of course, the avid readers of A Song of Ice and Fire, these upcoming spin-offs are great news for the whole fandom. Not only that they can now understand the full picture behind the main storyline of Game of Thrones, but they can get to experience another whole new ride with George R.R. Martin and his undoubtedly magnificent work in the world of Westeros.
Previously, a lot of speculations circulated the media that HBO is planning to do five spin-offs after the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 8. Although there are no confirmations about these five successor shows, one of them is already in the process of development.
In a recent interview with Deadline, it has been shared that the production for the Game of Thrones prequel will start this year and most effectively once Game of Thrones Season 8 wraps up. And this is something to get "excited" about, Casey Bloys, HBO President said.
This upcoming prequel is created by George R.R. Martin and Jane Goldman, head writer for Kingsman films. And based on the little information about this spin-off, the setting is believed to be placed a thousand years before the actual setting of Game of Thrones. So while this is, considerably, a small amount of knowledge about the upcoming series, there are certain things that can be easily deduced from it.
Primarily, the prequel spin-off will surely further enlighten its viewers about the history of the White Walkers. Secondly, secrets and intrigues inside and outside Westeros will be tackled. And thirdly, the cast of this Game of Thrones spin-off will feature all-new faces.
Now, the production is just about to start. So while the prequel gets more exciting as time passes by, Game of Thrones Season 8 will surely surpass all emotions once it premieres on April 14.
