iPhone Brexit app will soon be out as Apple agrees with a deal that will allow the UK government to use the iPhone technology in preparation for their European Union Exit.
Apple has finally agreed to unlock the Near Field Commission, NFC which will make the EU Exit: ID Document Check application accessible through iPhone. This will make it easier for foreign nationals to register for the European Union Settlement scheme via iOS. NFC is an application that allows devices closely located to wisely exchange information.
Sajid Javid, UK Home Secretary announced the coming iPhone Brexit app launch and later said in a statement that their EU Settlement Scheme is now up and running. He added that after a successful launch, there are over 280,000 EU citizens have applied so that they can continue to live their lives after the Brexit as they do now
What is the Brexit App for?
In preparation for their exit from the European Union, UK launched a plan for EU nationals to remotely register their post-Brexit residency. Using the NFC they can do the registrations using their smartphones, android and iPhones alike. Unfortunately, iOS does not support the NFC leaving the UK nationals with no option but their Android phones alone.
Apple's recent acceptance of the request to unlock the NFC gives iPhone users free access to the EU Exit: ID Document Check app. This allows the smartphones running on iOS to verify the chip in the UK nationals' passport or identity card.
The Brexit app will also allow the iPhone users to put additional information to their applications as well as scan their details. The iOS face recognition will be used for identity verification and authenticity of the applicant's document ownership.
How is it possible this time?
Apple has reportedly changed the access policy around the NFC making it accessible to all iPhone users. The tech giant has opened the iOS access to a wider spectrum for EU passport holders.
When will it be available?
Javid on his statement expressed his gratitude to the tech giant says that he is pleased to confirm that Apple will make the identity document check app available on iPhone devices by the end of the year. Meaning, iPhone users with UK passports could have themselves prepared ahead of the EU exit before 2019 ends.
Apple, however, clarified that the unlocking of NFC for iPhones will only be exclusive for the EU Exit: ID Document Check app. Third-party developers remain restricted.
