In 2016, it was announced that High School Musical 4 would happen and it's going to arrive anytime soon. Three years later, however, there is still no sign of the said show anywhere. But even so, the whole High School Musical fandom is still waiting for its arrival while hoping for further updates.
Fortunately, recent reports have shared new details about the upcoming film. But based on the specifics of these details, it seems that High School Musical 4 is still far away from its premiere and release as the production is still on the process of calling cast members.
As it happens, the new addition to the High School Musical franchise will feature new roles and characters. So, this means that there will be no sign of Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, and Ryan in the new film. Instead, it will feature five new characters that are named as Erin, Derek, Campbell, Tamara, and Nathalie. And any trace of the original characters' traits will not be included.
It is also revealed that none of the original cast members will return to the upcoming film, yet. But as for Ashley Tisdale who became popular for her role as Sharpay, the actress already confirmed that she would not return to reprise her role.
In addition to the new characters, the plot will also be far different from the first three installments. While basketball and theatrical performances are the two huge factors that make the High School Musical films, High School Musical 4 will feature soccer and cheerleading as per reports.
So far, these are the only details that have been shared publicly. Also, it is worth noting that when this film premieres, it will only be accessible to Disney+ members.
As you may know, Disney is releasing its streaming service this year. And while the first three High School Musical films were released on Disney Channel, the forthcoming one will only be released on Disney+ along with the other original Disney films.
Now, aside from the highly anticipated film, there will also be a new addition to the franchise. And fortunately for the avid fans, this upcoming addition will be a 10-episode series that will also be available on Disney+.
According to Seventeen, the series will carry the title High School Musical: The Musical which will be filmed as a docu-series style. But just like High School Musical 4, the details of the series are also yet to be revealed.
