See You Yesterday first debuted in 2017. And during that time, the material was solely a short film. But after the immediate success of the said title as it obtained a nomination from the 2018 Black Reel Awards, See You Yesterday now becomes a full-length film that will soon arrive on Netflix.
The short film is directed by Stefon Bristol. He returned to direct the now feature-length film of the same title which is produced by Spike Lee.
See You Yesterday is a sci-fi film that follows the adventure of two young long-time friends, C.J. Walker and Sebastian Thomas. When C.J.'s brother was wrongfully killed by a police officer, the two youngsters try to build a time machine backpack to change the course of her brother's life.
C.J. and Sebastian became successful with their invention. However, when they travel back in time, they learned that time-traveling is not that simple. Rather, it offers a more complex reality that they never thought possible. This is the main plot of the upcoming film.
While it may appear as a simple scheme, See You Yesterday offers a more intriguing dynamic as it tackles various controversial issues of today. Specifically, the reality that has been quite apparent to the minority of the society, especially the Black youths.
This kind of narrative is presumably one of the major reasons for its actual success. And although it is considered as a controversial material, this aspect is purely subjective as per What's On Netflix.
The cast of the upcoming film is led by Eden Duncan-Smith and Dante Crichlow who will play the roles of C.J. and Sebastian, respectively. As it happens, they are the actual actors who played the same roles in the short film of the same title back in 2017.
Some of the cast members include Orange Is The New Black stars Marsha Stephanie Blake and Taliyah Whitaker. Also, other roles in the film are played by Grey's Anatomy star, Johnathan Nieves, Now You See Me actor, Brett G. Smith, and Billions star, Frank Harts.
See You Yesterday is primarily set to premiere on May 3 at the Tribeca Film Festival. And on May 17, the film will finally arrive on Netflix as an original title.
There is an official trailer already for the upcoming film. And although it has an official poster as well, more promotional materials are expected to be released after making its debut on the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival.
