It was already revealed that there will be a Game Of Thrones prequel, and reports even claimed there would be as many as five - or even more. So now, here are some latest news and updates about the status of Game Of Thrones prequel.
Previous reports noted there will be five or more Game Of Thrones prequel being worked on, and it was confirmed one of them is happening on HBO. The network chose the one from Jane Goldman, the writer of Kingsman: Secret Service, X-Men: First Class, and Kick-Ass. Reports also said George R.R. Martin is involved in this project, and he'll serve as an executive producer as well.
But, it's worth mentioning that HBO only ordered the pilot and not the full series. It is also possible the network would consider other pitches and could get a pilot as well. Right now, the release date of Game Of Thrones prequel is not yet known, but since Game Of Thrones season 8 is currently airing, fans could reportedly expect the arrival on the sequel sometime in 2020.
Naomi Watts will reportedly be the lead actress of the Game Of Thrones prequel. Her character is being kept as a secret but she is said to be "a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret." Also, Poldark star Josh Whitehouse is reportedly part of the prequel as well. But then, his role also remains unknown.
As for the plot of Game Of Thrones prequel, the untitled pilot episode will take a thousand years before the event in the original Game Of Thrones. The series, as per Entertainment Weekly, chronicles the world's descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. It further added that only one thing is for sure: it is not the story we think we know.
In Martine's books, the Age of Heroes started 10,000 years before the events in Game Of Thrones happened. Some of the major characters that could appear in the prequel include Bran the Builder (founder of House Stark and oversaw construction of The Wall and Winterfell), and Lann the Clever (founder of House Lannister). Also, based on the timeline, the characters in the current series will not appear in the sequel.
Meanwhile, Brian Cogman is also doing a Game Of Thrones prequel, but it was previously announced that it was canceled. He and Martin had been working on the concept, but Cogman recently revealed his prequel is not happening and it will not happen because HBO is going in a different direction.
