Two sources recently confirmed that LG Electronics will release their first 5G device, the LG V50 ThinQ in South Korea on May 10. The announcement will come after a slight delay; LG was supposed to launch the V50 last April 28, but it was moved to the aforementioned date after deciding to "give more time" to optimize the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and X55.
Android Central said that the launch of the 5G clad V50 came in line with the public's "strong interest" in the network. 5G handles a ton of promise, and LG feels that it is about time to dip their toes despite South Korea not having the "best user experience" when it comes to 5G. Since then, the company decided to take the risk and try 5G despite their concern that issues with the network would be blamed on their new device rather than the network.
Business Korea also echoed LG's announcement by saying that the release of the V50 will propel them ahead of Samsung and Huawei. Both are having trouble in releasing their foldable Smartphones in the market; review units of the Samsung Galaxy Fold didn't really fare well in the reviews as several tech writers complained about broken screen.
The LG V50, the website added, can compete as a foldable phone. It will use a case with a second screen "to transform into a foldable phone." However, it's not the same as the Galaxy Fold or the Huawei Mate X. The LG V50's screen doesn't literally fold. Instead, it is something that Android Central described to be as "more of a half in half."
LG believes that the V50 can appeal to the mobile gaming community. They can use the second screen to display the controls of the game. The primary screen of the Smartphone on the other hand can provide a better perspective without the hassle of sharing it with controls that can be very small at times.
However, this will not prove to be all on the positive side. Although there will be users who are looking to have this setup, others might think that having a second screen (or case) to go along with a standalone phone will be too bulky to carry around.
Be that as it may, LG is set to release the V50 ThinQ. It will come with a 6.4inch OLED QHD+ display screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, a 32-bit quad DAC and a massive 4,000mAh battery. The device will also incorporate a triple camera setup at the back and two front facing snappers. It will be available on three of South Korea's domestic carriers at around $1,035.
