Microsoft, as promised, has commenced on the global rollout of Windows 10 version 1903 (codenamed 19H1) that is otherwise known as the May 2019 Update packed with major feature bump ups. The upgrade is currently live and all set for download but the actual OS availability, according to its maker, may have to come a bit late for some users.
Microsoft is not playing favorites but merely playing safe. In a blog post, the Windows maker said that for version 1903 "we are slowly throttling up this availability, while we carefully monitor data and feedback." For this deployment, it's clear that the company is implementing the lessons learned from the past mistakes, specifically for version 1809 that was plagued with bug issues.
So as part of a more cautious approach to the update rollout, a new service called Windows release health dashboard went live with version 1903. This is Microsoft making up for the blunders that occurred following the October 2018 Update. This time around, there will be increased transparency as the latest Windows 10 build is absorbed by PC systems around the world.
This extra service, Microsoft said, will offer "timely information on the current rollout status and known issues (open and resolved) across both feature and monthly updates."
Among the few things that users can expect is the introduction of the Windows sandbox feature, which provides an enhanced safety measure for the operating system, and the separation of Windows Search from Cortana. The Verge said a new light theme has been added to further spice up the already visual treat that Windows 10 is. In the last feature upgrade, users got to taste the heavily requested dark theme.
Support for Kaomoji has been embedded too with the new Windows 10, and the feature will also include ready access to other symbols that will make life easier for writers using the Microsoft product.
It should be noted as well that version 1903 is a mandatory update for users still on version 1803, which Microsoft said will reach an end of service status on November this year. As such, machines still running the OS version will automatically jump to 1903 and the process will be initiated through Windows Update.
This is being done to keep "those devices supported and receiving the monthly updates that are critical to device security and ecosystem health," the company explained.
For the rest, the way to go is the manual route that can be triggered by heading into Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update then check for the update's availability. If Windows 10 version 1903 is ready, a Download and install now option will appear. In its absence, the best thing to do is to wait as Microsoft already stated that the release will be slowed down deliberately for the good of end users.
