Reese Witherspoon gushed about her friendship with Jennifer Aniston, but Ellen DeGeneres claimed she's better friends with the Friends alum.
Witherspoon and DeGeneres appeared in a new video, having a BFF battle over who their common friend, Jennifer Aniston, likes better. The two started gabbing at DeGeneres' talk show Ellen, and then it graduated into a teasing match, as they tried to outdo each other's reasoning for why they each thought they were Aniston's best buddy.
DeGeneres posed a question to Witherspoon, asking her whether she believed that DeGeneres and she had a better time together than she and Aniston did. To this the show's guest tried to explain that, she and Aniston knew each other better, being "good friends" and had just concluded filming their new show.
DeGeneres was quick to butt in, claiming that Aniston had "needed a break" and was even happy that was "over."
To this Witherspoon asked whether DeGeneres felt she was better friends with Aniston, to which the talk show host declared that she did not need to "say it" because it was "obvious." DeGeneres added that many people "knew" that for a fact: she and Aniston were good friends.
Witherspoon and Aniston, it seems, were recently together for the filming of their new television series The Morning Show, which airs on Apple TV, according to the Legally Blonde star. Witherspoon made a reference to this in a mischievous statement, claiming Aniston had felt "excited" to work with her as she had grown weary of "hanging out" with DeGeneres.
To this, the comedian promptly hit back that Witherspoon was "delusional." She went on to declare that their mutual pal was the kind of person who loved to make other people "feel better." She claimed their absent friend would tell you "anything" just to achieve that.
Witherspoon hit back and talked about the times she would go over to Aniston's house and ask whether DeGeneres was also invited, to which she said Aniston would say that they were not going to tell their friend that.
When it was time for Witherspoon to leave the stage, DeGeneres called Aniston on her mobile phone, placing it on speaker phone mode, and made a call to the We're the Millers starrer. She even asked whether the audience wanted to listen in.
However, the call only reached Aniston's mailbox, which was found to be full that moment. In a second, the talk show host received a text message from Aniston, who told her to call back and that she was, during that moment, on her treadmill.
The two finally spoke on the phone and DeGeneres had told Aniston she was having her Ellen show that exact moment. With the whole studio audience eavesdropping on the call, DeGeneres proceeded to explain the situation to Aniston, saying that their mutual friend Witherspoon had claimed to be better friends with Aniston.
With great care, Aniston replied on the phone that she, DeGeneres, was the better friend of the two, as they had been friends a long time, "30 years," according to the Friends star.
So with that statement, DeGeneres went off the phone and told her audience that she had "cleared" it all up, "once and for all."
