The latest Quentin Tarantino movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, wowed the audience at the Cannes Film Festival this May. The movie is highly anticipated because of its star-studded cast and positive reviews. So, when will this film be released in regular theaters?
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood premiered in Cannes, France on May 21. It is expected to be in theaters in the United States, Canada, and India on July 26. It will be out in Europe by August 8. However, theaters in the United Kingdom will run the movie beginning on August 15. It will be shown in Hong Kong and Japan by August 30.
Because of the scattered release dates of Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, writer and director Quentin Tarantino issued an appeal to hold off on the spoilers. In a post on Twitter, Tarantino said that the cast and crew worked hard on this original movie; thus, he hopes the audience will not reveal important details to those who have yet to watch the film.
Tarantino also told the press at Cannes that the theatrical version might get a longer recut. As it is, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has a 2:35 runtime.
"I may make it longer," Tarantino said, as per IndieWire."[The editor's] job is to put in every single thing I shot, give me everything. That's not unusual, for an epic-y kind of movie."
The writer and director had been working on the story of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood for over ten years. The idea came about while he was on the set of Inglorious Basterds and saw the interaction between the stunt double and an actor.
Tarantino said that he found the relationship of the stunt double and the actor so fascinating so he thought he should explore a story of this duo at the end of their careers. That's how Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was born.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood takes place in 1969 and highlights an aging TV star named Rick, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, and his stunt double named Cliff, played by Brad Pitt. As a background story, the plot happens amid the real-life Manson murder incident that made the global headlines because of its high-profile victim, Hollywood actress Sharon Tate (played by Margot Robbie).
Variety hailed the film as a masterpiece, while TIME Magazine said this is one of Tarantino's "most affectionate" movies. The Guardian, on the other hand, commended the director for this brilliant film.
