Sony Deputy President John Kodera revealed during the Q& A portion of the Sony IR Day 2019 that cross-generation community can enjoy playing games online together, which simply means that PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 users can simultaneously enjoy playing online. The recent development is another exciting feature that fans are eagerly waiting to hear despite that Sony has not yet revealed the release window of its next-generation gaming console.

Apart from this, the Japanese tech and gaming console giant Sony recently confirmed that it will steadily roll out support to PlayStation 4 for more three years. The announcement was made during the company's investors' meeting where Sony noted that PlayStation 4 will remain the gaming console giant's engine of engagement and profitability for three succeeding years. Fans are delighted hearing the latest pronouncement from the Japanese gaming titan since it was recently speculated that it is going to release its next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, come 2020.

Sony recognizes the crucial role of PlayStation 4 in the success it achieved over the years. According to Japanese gaming and tech titan, it will continue to roll out support to the current gaming console model. The cross-generation and backward compatibility features of the upcoming gaming console are among the favorite subjects of gamers. PlayStation 4 users are happy to learn that PlayStation 5 will be compatible with PS4 titles through streaming or through Xbox One-like backward compatibility.

As of now, Sony has been very vague about the support it plans to roll out to PlayStation 4. Players are quick to speculate that the support could be an update that would enable PS4 to play with numerous cross-gen titles. Previously, the Japanese gaming console titan teased that several titles like "Death Stranding" will be playable on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Other rumored titles that will be playable to both consoles include the much-awaited sequel to "The Last of Us 2" and the upcoming IP of Sucker Punch Productions titled "Ghost of Tushima."

At present, the full plans of the Japanese tech and gaming console titan are not yet totally revealed. But, cross-generation gaming is a genius move that will ensure titles will sell well while the PlayStation 5 has a small install base. It will also empower PlayStation 4 users to be able to play games made for PS5, which could mean they will no longer have to buy the next generation console. But, of course, gamers will never let an opportunity pass of getting their hands on the shinier and more advanced gaming console from Sony.
