Elementary season 7 recently premiered and there is a shocking incident in the first episode, which might be crucial this entire season. Sherlock received an unexpected phone call from Detective Bell, telling him that Captain Gregson was shot and doctors aren't really sure if he'll survive or not.
Many are probably wondering who shot Gregson, but his/her might not be revealed anytime soon. In an interview with TVLine, show executive producer Rob Doherty said that Sherlock, Joan, and the rest of the team wouldn't instantly find out what happened to the captain in just a single week's time and fans need to be patient about it.
Doherty noted that the attempted murder of Gregson will not happen in just one episode and it won't wrap up immediately. He said that the incident is something they will mark over the course of Elementary season 7, and it will further drive the season. This is reportedly a complicated case, and it will be even more complicated when Sherlock and Joan started to investigate.
In addition, investigating Gregson's case could also put the duo in greater jeopardy. The further they push what happened to him, the more likely they're putting themselves into greater danger. This could help them find their way back to the United States, but considering the complicated situation of Sherlock in the wake of Michael's death, this might probably add more risk as to what they are going through.
Also, Detective Bell is in a complicated situation as well. He's in a situation where he needs to make a decision and to follow what he really wants. He got himself in the US Marshals which is a great opportunity for him, yet he didn't want to leave Gregson behind.
Doherty said the detective finds himself in a situation where he's being offered to move on to the U.S. Marshals, but couldn't fully accept it as his friend and a father figure to him is in a hospital room, possibly dying.
Bell knows what Gregson would want him to do, however, he has his own sense of what is right and wrong. Throughout the next episodes of Elementary season 7, he needs to make a tough decision, but many think he's not be leaving the captain behind, or at least until the investigation is over.
Meanwhile, Elementary season 7 episode 2 will air on Thursday, May 30, on the CBS.
