Ahead of their official Computex 2019 keynote, Intel dropped a couple of major bombs that surprised the digital world. The first bomb showcases the soon to be released Intel Core i9-9900KS processor. The other bomb is the eleventh generation GPU that will be featured in the company's prized 10nm Ice Lake processors.
The upcoming Intel Core i9-9900KS boasts 5GHz turbo frequencies on all eight cores. The product is the latest inclusion to the ninth generation desktop product series. It is so similar to the i9-9900K, but since it is a special edition product, it has 5 GHz turbo across 8 cores instead of just 1 core of the i9-9900K.
The product has still the same 16 threads 8 cores power alongside 16MB of L3 cache, the same soldered IHS as the core i9-9900K, and a GT2 graphics chip. The much faster clock speed would result in much higher power consumption. Despite that Intel pegged that the base frequency of the latest CPU is 95W, its actual TDM would definitely be too high.
It appears that it has become a tradition of Intel to launch special edition products every year. It can be recalled that last year the company unveiled the Core i7-8086K Anniversary Edition. It is a special version of the i7-8700K but with much higher clock speeds.
It would be so much more interesting to know the price and the power capabilities of the upcoming Intel Core i9-9900 KS. So far, it appears that the new product is a power-hungry beast that could become too hot. Does it have a beefy cooling setup equipped with air-cooling?
In addition to the new CPU, Intel also announced the 10nm Ice Lake Gen 11 GPUs. The company revealed the details of some of its 10nm GPUs, namely the 15W and the 25W. It unveiled how these products fair with the Ryzen's 15W and 25W CPUs.
In terms of performance, the Ice Lake-U series topped the test and bested the Whisky-Lake U series by 2.08 percent in different games. When the Ice Lake-U was compared to the 25W AMD Ryzen 7 3700 Vega-based iGPu, it delivered over 1.16 percent much better performance. During its Investor Meeting, Intel revealed that it would start the shipment of the first batch of its 10nm processors named Ice Lake.
The Ice Lake Gen 11 graphics engine is a mobile PC product of the company. It is expected to double the graphics performance of the games that run on Gen 9 GPUs. It is anticipated to deliver 2x of the Coffee Lake refresh's performance in terms of graphics, Artificial Intelligence, wireless speeds, and video encoding.
