After confirming the development of its own operating system, new sources prove that Huawei may finally have the name of its new OS - the Ark OS. The company reportedly has trademarked three names with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), including HUAWEI ARK OS, HUAWEI ARK, ARK, and ARK OS.
After a week full of complications in the technology market, which shoes Huawei being banned by the United States and Google removing its rights to use all their platform, the Chinese company Huawei enlists its future operating system and has presented trademarks to the European Union. Huawei registered several possible names of its operating system, all related to the word Ark.
While this does not mean that Huawei's new operating system will be called Ark, it almost confirms that the Hongmeng name was obviously temporary, not only because it is too Eastern but also because of its difficult pronunciation for the western public as well as to the majority of the world.
Hongmeng, another patent registered by Huawei, is a system that is based on Linux and was mentioned by Tim Watkins in the same interview with the Financial Times. At the time, the executive commented that the system could be launched by the end of the fourth quarter already with an application store of its own.
HongMeng OS began to be developed by Huawei in mid-2012 already with the potential to be an alternative to Android. Its interface follows the EMUI standard, with square icons and no app drawer. The brand has not released it so far, and few details are known about its current stage of development. It is not clear if HongMeng OS and Ark OS are different systems for different uses or if Huawei just renamed the name of its initial idea.
This new Ark operating system, developed by Huawei, would be based on Android Open Source Project, the agreement signed by different companies to keep the Android's ecosystem free to use.
Under this new version of the OS, Android applications should run smoothly or could be optimized by Huawei for compatibility. The only confirmation known is that this new system will not be able to integrate Google Play Store and the services of the Internet giant developed for Android. Instead, they'll have to rely on AppGallery, their own app store.
Chinese market sources ensure that Huawei is in advanced negotiations between developers and executives responsible for the Aptoide and AppGallery stores. In the case of the latter, AppGallery could be the first option to replay Google Play Store as it is already present in branded phones sold outside China by default. The negotiations are aimed at expanding the range of applications and games.
Aptoide is another option known to Android users and would be used as a second option. It is not yet clear, however, if developers of US companies will be able to collaborate by developing apps and games for Huawei due to the sanctions, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and hundreds.
It is a curious the detail that Huawei may name their new operating system as the "ARK,” as it can be a peculiar symbol that even in the midst of the storm, the company has been living and getting by and will be on top again.
The CEO of Huawei has already announced that the firm will not close because the brand manages to overcome one of the hardest weeks of its existence, achieving and doing improvements to offer exceptional mobile service to its customers around the globe.
