Tesla Model 3 is set to leave the production line at Tesla's new Gigafactory 3 in China for the local market. The Model 3 will come equipped with exclusive updates and a price 10,000 lower than its US counterpart.
The electric car company previously teased an announcement that it has a surprise for its China market, and today it was revealed that the surprise is about the Tesla Model 3. On its official Weibo account, Tesla confirmed that pre-orders for the Model 3 made in China would start tomorrow, May 31, 2019. And though Tesla hasn't released the price yet, it is reported that the Model 3 made in China will be $10,000 lesser than those that are US made.
At present, the Tesla Model 3 in the Chinese market starts at 377,000 yuan, or $54,555. It is expected that the cheapest Tesla Model 3 produced in China will have a cost of $43,400 dollars.
Tesla looks like its ready for full landing in the Chinese territory. This is demonstrated by the construction of their Gigafactory 3 that is now on its later stage and the announcement of the Tesla Model 3 preorders. The Gigafactory 3 in China is already giving them great advantages as it can lower the Model 3 price to possibly $10,000 lesser than the ones they get in California and deliver in China.
This is possible thanks to the savings on continuously rising import tariffs that Tesla will not have to pay to the Chinese government, not to mention the Government subsidies and the delivery costs that Tesla can cut off now. The Chinese electric vehicle market is one of the hardest EV markets to enter as other electric car brands are sold at a much lower price, and now, Tesla can compete.

For some analyst, it is surprising that Tesla is already opening orders for the Tesla Model 3 made in China as this is so soon. Based on Tesla’s own timeline, they are ahead at least by 4 months. The reason for the preorders may be because the Model 3 already has a huge demand. Hopeful buyers should know though that it may take time before their Model 3 arrives.
Although it is not yet confirmed if the completion of the Gigafactory can reach its scheduled end this May, it is more likely that the factory is almost finished and is ready to manufacture Tesla Model 3. The speed with which this project advances every week is fast as the construction process of this factory takes place 24 hours of the day wherein workers have different shifts, so the process has not stopped even a moment to achieve its objective.
Taking into account that its construction began in January, it is impressive to know that the Gigafactory is almost complete. Assuming that Tesla can meet the deadline this May, the production plant could start manufacturing the first units of the Tesla Model 3 by September, leaving Tesla with a backlog of pre-orders until then.
