Queen Elizabeth II will host a state banquet for the President of the United States, Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump when they visit the UK next week. A former royal chef claims the monarch will personally oversee the preparations for the large banquets held at the Buckingham Palace.
On June 3, the US President and the First Lady will arrive in Great Britain for a three-day state visit. Her Majesty will welcome the pair at the Buckingham Palace and will put on a banquet in their honor. The state dinner will reportedly be attended by senior royals and British politicians.
Queen Elizabeth oversees the preparations, particularly in food arrangements. So, the Trumps' first day in Great Britain will be rounded off with a lavish dinner at the palace. Also, the event is reportedly exclusive, wherein Prince Harry and Theresa May will likely attend.
The event will reportedly be a splendid one, and Queen Elizabeth has personal input in the menu. In an interview with the Daily Mail, former royal chef Darren McGrady revealed the monarch is "not a foodie," but she's a keen hostess.
He said Her Majesty decides what food should be prepared and chefs will present the weekly menu book to her, and she'll cross off the dishes she didn't like. McGrady added the monarch usually puts a line through the ones she didn't like.
The former royal chef also revealed Her Majesty likes being hands-on when it comes to state banquets and she enjoyed serving up a game from her estates. He said the Queen oversees the full menu and will choose what she wanted, and she'll ask questions like if they still have enough pheasant, grouse, and partridge.
McGrady said Queen Elizabeth loved food from the estate and loved her produce on the menu as well. So, the US President and the First Lady might probably be treated to British pheasant of partridge at the Buckingham Palace.
He also revealed which special china is being brought out during state feasts, and said when there's a king, queen, or president visiting. Reportedly, they would break out the Rockingham china from Queen Victoria's coronation, so the Trumps will probably dine off the precious plates of Her Majesty's great-great-grandmother.
Meanwhile, others reportedly plan to snub the occasion in protest to the US President. Particularly, Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable, London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Commons Speaker John Bercow, and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will all reportedly boycott the state banquet.
