In a couple of days, Black Mirror season 5 is about to hit the small screens. One of the episodes that fans are most excited to see is the one featuring Miley Cyrus. Titled "Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too," Liam Hemsworth's wife teased it would be different from the others.
Cyrus revealed her episode would have "move humor than usual." Here, the 26-year-old star would play the role of a pop star Ashley O, who has a sad life behind her happy public face. She has her inner struggles and has been taking pills.
In an interview with Capital Breakfast, Cyrus talked about how she came up with Ashley's role. When people behind Black Mirror Season 5 asked her if she could portray the said character, the real-life singer said she had no choice since they already wrote it about her. "I don't know who else you're going to use," she said.
Cyrus felt like it was really "personal and individualized." The former teen idol believed it would be different from what fans used to see as it would bear a little humor. However, she assured her episode would still carry the show's trademark of "super dark and twisted tale," but it would make viewers reconsider everything they know about technology, music, and the industry.
In a different talk with the Newsbeat, Cyrus said her Black Mirror Season 5 episode would be about the story of women in the music industry. "I understand everyone's gone through this, but I do think for females in the industry... it's hard to be taken seriously," she said. It would also be about a sad teenager, played by Angourie Rice," who badly wanted to have a connection with her favorite popstar Ashley.
The show's creator Charlie Brooker, on the other hand, promised "Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too" would be different from anything that they have produced in the past, Digital Spy reported. It would have a "romp-y tone" that might surprise and irritate the viewers at the same time.
As fans seem to expect to see the characters' lives start to fall apart in Black Mirror Season 5, it would be a refreshing sight to witness Cyrus' episode and occasionally end up the series like it. Brooker went on to say that if they kept doing "nihilistically bleak stories," the show would become "very predictable."
Black Mirror Season 5 is set to be out on Wednesday, June 5, on Netflix. It will only have three episodes, and Cyrus feature will be Episode 2.
