Quin Cook may not be among the top names in the NBA right now although he does hold strong ties with two superstars in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. With most speculating that the two NBA stars may end up playing for the New York Knicks, their friendship could affirm all that.
Cook, currently a backup guard for the Warriors, will be a free agent by the end of the current NBA season and there are rumblings that he could be headed to the Knicks alongside Durant if the said rumor does come to fruition. And if things bode well, he could also get the chance to be teammates with Irving, someone he followed at Duke.
“I haven’t talked to Kyrie about free agency,’’ Cook said to the New York Post. “When I talked to him late in the season, the only thing on his mind was trying to help Boston win and we’ve been talking about life and family since. I have no idea. I’m hoping for the best for him.”
The Knicks are of course not the only one in the hunt for Irving's services. The Boston Celtics are still there and there are the Los Angeles Lakers. After opening communication lines with LeBron James once more, critics felt that there was a chance that the two would reunite in Hollywood. However, a report from ESPN begged to differ, saying that there was still no certainty of a reunion happening.
Irving said after the season of the Celtics ended that his decision will be made on July 1. Durant, on the other hand, has yet to play since getting injured in their NBA Western Conference semifinal pairing with the Houston Rockets. He did not suit up during game one of the 2019 NBA Finals and there is still no word on when he would return to action.
“He’s trying hard to get back. He’s always encouraging us, so he’s important to have a guy like that with his presence. All he wants to do is win a third championship. He’s trying his hardest to get out there,” said Cook.
Aside from Durant and Irving, Cook also gave his take on incoming rookie RJ Barrett - someone expected to be among the top picks at the 2019 NBA Draft. He has a good feel of the 6-foot-7 swingman and believes he will be an asset with his win-at-all-cost mentality. The Knicks hold the rights to the third overall pick and are in a good position to select the Canadian on June 20.
