HBO has yet to announce the official title of Game of Thrones prequel. Although it is called Bloodmoon, while George R.R. Martin called it The Long Night, it is only said to be its working title. So what does the new show will officially be called?
Game of Thrones prequel has no official title yet. The show is set to begin its production this June, and it will bear the working title Bloodmoon. Martin also backtracked to call it The Long Night, as HBO has yet to reveal what name it will bear.
I an earlier issue of Production Weekly, the spinoff is reportedly listed as Untitled Game of Thrones Prequel (w/t Bloodmoon). The working title seems to be fitting, knowing how bloody the series is. However, fans may find it hard to extract anything from its name.
According to Screen Rant, working titles are meant to be unrelated to the show, so it can avoid getting attention. Hence, it usually has nothing to do with its plot or storyline. Spider-Man: Homecoming even used Summer of George as its working title, which has no connection to the movie at all, as it is a reference to a Seinfeld episode.
The prequel is set thousands of years before Game of Thrones occurs. Hence, fan-favorite characters, like Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), will not be seen here. Instead, fans will be taken to the time when the Night King and his army of the dead set foot in Westeros.
The show may feature a different Westeros and Essos, as it will "chronicle the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour" or the Long Night. It will explore the "true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, and the Starks of legend."
Although the production will already take place, it may take a couple of years before Game of Thrones prequel hits the small screens. In an interview with Deadline, HBO programming president Casey Bloys revealed releasing it soon feels a "little rushed."
"I have to get a sense from production when we see scripts for a season, how big and involved it is," he said. "Shooting a pilot in June and having it on the air a year later feels a little rushed, but it's too soon to tell."
Bloys revealed there would be a lot of new television series coming to HBO from this year until 2021, so the spinoff might not be out yet. However, there are assumptions Game of Thrones prequel will be out after two years.
