As previously speculated, Apple indeed unveiled earlier today the macOS 10.15 with a distinct name, macOS Catalina. The new OS comes with a new way that enables developers to port their apps to the MAC and several other interesting features. The macOS Catalina will deliver the death of iTunes, which will be replaced with three apps from the iOS: Podcasts, TV App, and Music.

Release Date

According to the Cupertino tech giant, the macOS Catalina will be downloadable by September or October 2019. However, for registered developers, the macOS Catalina is available now. For those who will sign up for the Catalina Beta, they will be able to access the operating system starting in July 2019.

New Exciting Features

One of the major features of macOS Catalina is the inclusion of iPad app support. Previously called Marzipan, the feature is now named Catalyst. This is Apple's latest way to enable developers to port their iPad apps to the Mac. Through this, developers can utilize the Xcode to direct their iPad apps to macOS Catalina.

The Cupertino tech titan is also launching new Podcasts, TV apps, and Music in the new macOS Catalina which will replace the iTunes app. Apple Music resembles iTunes a lot. The Apple TV app dropped its sidebar; using HDR 10 now supports 4K HDR playback, Dolby Atmos, and Dolby Vision. Meanwhile, podcasts now have access to indexing support.

Apple is also introducing the Sidecar on Mac as part of the macOS Catalina. The Sidecar allows users to use the iPad as a secondary display. Interestingly, in addition to being an extended display, users can even use their iPad and Apple Pencil as a drawing tablet on several apps backed by the Mac. This includes the Adobe Illustrator, iWork, and Final Cut Pro X.

The macOS Catalina also unveils a new and interesting way to totally control the Mac by simply using the user's voice. This is a part of the OS' accessibility feature but users can now utilize it by simply speaking even while they are sitting or doing something else. In addition to these latest huge features, the Cupertino tech giant is now merging Find My friends and Find My iPhone apps into a single app named Find My.

This is available in macOS and in iOS. macOS Catalina will also bring an activation lock to Mac. This is an added security feature that renders your Mac useless in the event that it gets stolen. Photos also received a new update with the latest browsing view and Notes now has a gallery view. The Reminders app is also getting several tweaks in terms of updates and design.
