Justine Fortune, the current conditioning coach of the Filipino fighting champion Manny Pacquaio cautions The Pacman not to base in Keith Thurman's last fight to measure how the American boxer will perform on July 20 in Las Vegas. According to the conditioning coach, Keith Thurman is not the guy who went against Josetito Lopez and the fighter who will be on the ring in July. The conditioning coach also said that Pacquiao would need the wisdom of the veteran coach and trainer Freddie Roach in his upcoming technical fight.
In one of his recent interviews, Justin Fortune shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight of the Filipino boxer Manny Pacquaio against the undefeated American Boxer Keith Thurman. The interview left two valuable key points on crucial in the Filipino boxer's fate on the ring on July 20. First, Fortune noted that Pacquiao should not base his judgment on his opponent's abilities and boxing style based on his last fight.
According to Fortune, Thurman had a hard time winning against Lopez and was even on the brink of losing during his last fight. However, the conditioning coach does not see Thurman as that same kind of boxer that Manny Pacquaio will face next month at the MGM Grand. He shared that their camp is not preparing for that kind of Thurman rather the Keith Thurman who would be at his top shape and best performance.
The Australian coach, who arrived at Manila, Philippines a week ago, also said that Thurman is a good fighter who moves very well, a far cry from the boxer we saw in his last fight. Fortune also noted that Pacquiao will need the wisdom of the seven-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach for his upcoming fight. The Australian coach sees the upcoming fight as a technical one and he said that they need Roach for his wisdom when it comes to this kind of fight.
Fortune foresees that Thurman is not going to come forward during the fight, might not even fight toe to toe with Pacquaio, and might even run during the fight. The conditioning coach stressed that no one could ever replace the experience of Freddie Roach who was once a boxer himself, in preparing Pacquaio for an opponent like Thurman's caliber. Fortune noted that Roach has been in the boxing industry for four decades and has been Pacquiao's trainer for almost 20 years.
Additionally, Roach has trained 40 world champions and his point of view would be crucial in Manny Pacquiao's upcoming fight. Roach is now The Pacman's consultant and his inputs have been extremely valuable especially in Pacquiao's previous fight against Adrien Broner. Manny Pacquiao is the WBA regular welterweight champion and has a win-loss-draw record of 61-7-2 with 39 knockouts. His opponent, Keith Thurman is the current World Boxing Association super welterweight champion holding a win-loss record of 29-0 with 22 knockouts.
