Arrow season 8 is gearing up for a fantastic and unforgettable final year. Set for a shorter 10-episode run, the show starring Stephen Amell (as Arrow/Oliver Queen) has begun the preparations for its projected end.

The writers of Arrow season 8 confirmed that they had gotten back to the writers' room in a teaser video published on Twitter last June 11. The post hinted that this upcoming installment would be a "clean slate."

It's unclear for now what Arrow season 8 will bring given its short episode count. However, based on what happened in the finale of Arrow season 7, it looks as if Oliver Queen won't survive the much anticipated "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover set for this fall with Supergirl and The Flash.

The fact that The CW also announced that Arrow season 8 would be the final season early this year has made Oliver's ending probably. But the actor has a different take on what this final season should be about.

"The only thing that is left for him to do - and he doesn't need to die to do this - is he needs to leave a legacy because we have all these other shows that exist." Amell hinted about his character in an interview on the Inside You podcast with host and actor Michael Rosenbaum. "So whether 'Arrow' continued in the absence of Oliver Queen, or someone else took up the mantle of the Green Arrow, I think leaving a legacy is the last box left to tick for the character."

Amell also brought up the fact that his character has pretty much-done everything else. The only thing left for him was to die on the show. Rosenbaum asked whether the Arrow could die and Amell did not hesitate to answer yes since his superhero character does not possess superhuman powers.

Meanwhile, Arrow season 8 will be without Emily Bett Rickards (as Felicity Smoak) who also announced early this year that she would not be coming back for the final run. Joseph David Jones (as Connor Hawke), on the other hand, has been promoted to series regular.

The CW has moved Arrow season 8 at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday nights this fall to pair with The Flash, per TV Line. However, the network has not yet announced the premiere date for the upcoming season.

Filming for Arrow season 8, however, won't likely start until the middle of July. The writers have to finish a few scripts first before principal production officially gets underway.
