There is a good reason why people are both excited and worried about Star Wars Episode 9. The highly anticipated film has already been confirmed to be the final movie in the Skywalker Saga which started with A New Hope. But it is possible that The Rise of Skywalker will feature a shocking death despite its hopeful title? There are speculations that Kylo Ren will be killed so Emperor Sheev Palpatine can be brought back to life.

It's no secret that Palpatine will play a major role in Star Wars Episode 9. The Emperor's return has already been confirmed in the Rise of Skywalker trailer. In addition to that, actor Iain McDiarmid made an appearance at the film's panel during Star Wars Celebration, admitting that he will reprise his role as the Sith Lord. However, it is still unclear just how Palpatine will be brought back despite his death in Return of the Jedi.

There is always a possibility that the Emperor will simply appear as a Force ghost, but most Star Wars Episode 9 theories suggest that the villain might not truly be dead at all. One purports that the blue energy Force that was seen when Palpatine was thrown into the generator in ROTJ may have been some unseen teleport power. The theory continues by claiming the Sith Lord is still alive although "weak and dying" and "needs a Force user to transfer his consciousness into using a Sith ritual." But who could this Force user possibly be?

So far, there are only two confirmed Force users left in The Rise of Skywalker. Since it is highly unlikely that Rey would do anything that would benefit the Dark Side, there is little doubt that the Emperor is targetting Kylo Ren. There is a possibility that Palpatine will trick the former Ben Solo into sacrificing himself for Sheev's cause by manipulating Kylo's obsession with Darth Vader. Unfortunately, it could mean that Palpatine will then be able to transfer his consciousness into Kylo's body.

It might mean that the Emperor will be more powerful if he is finally in possession of Kylo Ren's body. However, he might still meet his match in Rey, who will undoubtedly fight to prevent the villain from succeeding in Star Wars Episode 9.

Will Rey ultimately kill Kylo and finally bring an end to the Emperor's madness? Find out when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres on December 20.
