The stakes are certainly higher in Big Little Lies Season 2 now that Mary Louise Wright has arrived in Monterey. The premiere episode confirmed that Meryl Streep's character is a force to reckon with as she effectively questioned every move that the Monterey Five made. But is it possible that Mary Louise will prove to be too much for Celeste Wright in Big Little Lies Season 2 Episode 2? Will Perry Wright's mother manage to get Celeste to tell her the truth about what happened on trivia night?
In 'What Have They Done?', the Monterey Five were finally reunited on the first day of school. However, it immediately becomes clear that Bonnie Carlson is still having trouble moving on. She admits that she wanted to confess to the police about what happened that night, but Madeleine Mackenzie had already made that impossible because of all the lies. It looks like Bonnie is the one who is most affected by the lies since she was the one who pushed Perry in the first place.
Meanwhile, Mary Louise immediately makes it clear that she doesn't trust Madeleine because of her height. For some reason, Perry's mother doesn't trust the Monterey Five and is somehow wary of her daughter-in-law. Mary Louise certainly seems to be on to Celeste's secret and questions why Celeste doesn't seem to be grieving Perry's death. Interestingly, the preview for Big Little Lies Season 2 Episode 2 reveals that Mary Louise knows more than everyone thought.
The promo for 'Tell-Tale Hearts' features an interesting scene between Mary Louise and Celeste where the former states that the latter left some things out in her story. "You were planning to leave him, the very night he died," Mary Louise said. Later in the Big Little Lies Season 2 Episode 2 preview, Celeste admits to someone that she still misses Perry. "Life just feels colorless now," she says.
Could this mean that Celeste will break and tell Mary Louise about how Perry had been abusive? Will she reveal that Mary Louise's son had fathered another child when he raped Jane? And more importantly, is it possible that Celeste will admit that the Monterey Five accidentally killed Perry on trivia night? Everything might finally fall into place in 'Tell-Tale Hearts.'
Can the Monterey Five keep their secret? Big Little Lies Season 2 Episode 2 will air on HBO on June 16.
