Microsoft's release cycle for Windows 10 feature upgrades indicates that the next installment after the May 2019 Update will arrive October this year, at the latest. This week, it appears that Microsoft is on schedule as the company made the ISO of Version 1909 (codenamed 20H1) available for download by Windows Insider participants.
As of writing, two builds of the upcoming version have been seeded already in the preview channel, namely, Build 18912 and Build 18917. For the former, the ISO files are in three variants and they are labeled Insider Preview, Insider Preview Enterprise and Insider Preview China Home.
The Build 18197, on the other hand, are for preview users on the Fast Ring, according to MSPowerUser, and which contains general changes, fixes, and improvements for machines running the operating system that later this 2019 will replace Windows 10 Version 1903.
To be clear though, Microsoft has yet to confirm when exactly Version 1909 will come out but going by the release pattern in the past years, the earliest rollout is October as what happened in 2018. But this 2019, the software giant was forced to delay the arrival of 1903 to make sure that bugs and other issues would be resolved first prior to the actual availability.
As it turned out, Windows 10 Version 1903 was streamed out in the middle of May 2019 and the decision by Microsoft to push pack seemed to have paid off so far. Compared to the problematic Version 1809 that hit the PC world October last year, the latest version appears to be trickling out smoothly. It should be noted that the phased arrival was deliberate on the part of Microsoft so as to ensure that problems will be addressed as they emerge for early installers.
It is likely then that Windows 10 1909 will touch down in a similar fashion. There is no sign right now that the feature upgrade will be delayed but it's safe to assume that Microsoft will not hesitate to replicate its move for 1903. Foremost of the company's concern is to make life easier for Windows 10 users.
Now for users eager to test drive the OS and its upcoming features, Neowin said the place to go is through this link. Users will have three ISO files to choose from, as mentioned above, and the easy pick has to be the regular Insider Preview. It will be like using a higher build of Version 1903 in Home Edition but with features that are in beta or testing phase.
Prior to downloading the OS in its beta form, Microsoft requires users to register first in the Insider Program. And before installing any of the ISO, it's best to check that the machine to be used has inside it the minimum hardware requirements.
