People are undoubtedly happy now that it has been confirmed that the Knights of Ren will return in Star Wars Episode 9. After all, the six mysterious characters were only briefly glimpsed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and were completely absent in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. So what are the chances that the KOR will finally swing into action in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? It looks like these warriors will be fighting against Kylo Ren instead of working with him.
The origin of the Knights of Ren is still unclear, but they are described as being neither Sith nor Jedi. Instead, they are Force users who have embraced the Dark Side of the Force and were led by Kylo Ren. However, it looked like Kylo had somehow left the group as he began working for Supreme Leader Snoke and the First Order. Nevertheless, the Knights of Ren are believed to be still operating despite having no connection to the First Order or the Resistance.
So is it possible that Kylo Ren's departure from the Knights of Ren has caused some tension between him and the group? There are speculations that Star Wars Episode 9 could pit the former Ben Solo against the KOR. This was confirmed by the Rise of Skywalker trailer where Kylo is shown attacking and slamming what appears to be a Knight of Ren into the ground. A recent Vanity Fair promo image for Episode 9 revealed that the character Kylo fights is one of the members of the Knights of Ren.
But what could the fight between Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren mean? Does this confirm that Kylo is a good guy trying to stop a greater threat, or is it vice versa? One theory suggests that the Knights of Ren might be keeping Kylo in check in case he messes up. Perhaps Kylo will do something that could lead the KOR to consider him a threat.
Although the role that the Knights of Ren will play is still unknown, there is little doubt that their fight against Kylo Ren will be epic. After all, they are equally strong Force users and could easily take on Kylo. The KOR could turn out to be some of the greatest warriors that Kylo will need to face in Star Wars Episode 9.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
