The long court battles caused by the controversies involving South Korean actors and actresses continues as a lot of them were already indicted to the crime while some are still on trial. One of them, like actress Hwang Hana, is still in denial of the accusations against her, despite evidence like drug tests and statements from other suspects like actor Park Yoochun.
As previously reported, Hwang Hana was initially arrested because of the re-opening of her case following an investigation connecting her in the sharing of illegal hidden camera videos in a KakaoTalk chat with friends. Her connection with Park Yoochun as drug supplier and co-user was also supported by her statements upon arrest.
However, her recent statements contradicted the one on her first trial, which also involves 14 letters of apology. Now, Hwang Hana denies that she used the drugs at the time she was with Yoochun on March 12-13 and accused of the latter to have mixed testimonies during a police investigation.
The alleged testimony was on May 17, when Yoochun was found guilty for violating the Narcotics Control Act after confessing to administering Philopon, illegal methamphetamine, a total of 7 times, including five times with his ex-fiancée Hwang Hana between September of 2018 and March of 2019. He is sentenced to be detained for a still indefinite period, but his lawyers are trying to negotiate it for one year and six months.
On June 19, the second trial on drug charges against Hwang Hana was held in Suwon District Court, and although she already admitted being accompanying Park Yoochun in March 2019, the granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Founder said she did not use drugs with him. A statement from her lawyers says, "we do not agree with the part of Park Yoochun's statement, which was given to the prosecutors for investigation."
Because of Hwang Hana's sudden change of statements, from admitting the crime to denying it, her trial will be prolonged, and the outcome will also affect the final verdict for Park Yoochun. Yoochun's final verdict hearing will be held on July 2.
It is still hard to speculate for what reason Hwang Hana has to change her previous statements, but apparently, it has something to do with lessening her sentence. Still, her actions might cause her more damage and additional crime of perjury, if the court finds it her true motive.
