Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were the first ones to greet Prince William on his birthday. The Duke of Cambridge has turned 37 on Friday, June 21, and a message to thank his well-wishers on this milestone was posted on their official Instagram account.
In the comments section of the said post, Prince Harry and Meghan greeted the heir to the throne with a short message. Fans weren't pleased with the Sussex couple as the birthday message was too impersonal and formal.
"It's your own brother, why the need to be so formal?" one royal follower wrote in the comments, per Entertainment Tonight. In contrast, Prince Harry and Meghan were more cordial with their greetings for Prince Louis, Prince William's youngest son, last May.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's birthday message come as they have confirmed their separation from Prince William and Kate Middleton's The Royal Foundation a day before. The palace made the split official in a statement.
"Later this year The Royal Foundation will become the principal charitable and philanthropic vehicle for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge," the spokesperson for Kensington Palace stated. "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will establish their own new charitable foundation with transitional operating support from The Royal Foundation."
Royal watchers have been intrigued about this split with some suggesting that there's a rift between Prince Harry and Prince William or their wives. The Palace, however, has been adamant in proclaiming that this was a natural progression. As the heir to the throne, Prince William and Kate will have more duties and responsibilities that should differentiate and separate them from Prince Harry and Meghan.
Prince William formed The Royal Foundation with Kate and Prince Harry in 2011. Meghan joined the cause when she married into the family. The Sussex couple, however, said that they will still be working on Heads Together, the mental health advocacy of The Royal Foundation, with the Cambridge royals.
Meanwhile, as a result of the split, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are going to open up their own charity later this year. According to Marie Claire, it might not be a charity focused on single advocacy. It will likely be an umbrella organization supporting different causes close to Prince Harry and Meghan's passions. For instance, Meghan is an advocate for shelter dogs and animal rescues while. Prince Harry has worked with people with disabilities and PTSD.
The Sussex royals will announce their plans for their foundation in the coming months.
