Earlier this week, a rumor claimed that Microsoft is working on a Surface notebook running on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx platform intended for Windows 10 devices. Today, we have more details concerning this matter. It seems that Microsoft would like a Surface Pro to run on Snapdragon 8cx chip.

Microsoft is also believed to be working on its Microsoft surface laptop line with AMD processors as its way of exploring other alternatives other than Intel. In a report by Petri, it indicates that the relationship between Microsoft and Intel is on shaky ground but fails to state the reason behind. The Redmond-based tech titan is currently testing AMD processors and ARM for its next-generation Surface products.

The next Microsoft Surface laptop might be released equipped with an AMD version running on a Picasso 12nm SoC. The Microsoft Surface 7, on the other hand, might release with a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon 8xc, the one which was developed on Microsoft's campus. It is believed that the Redmond-based tech titan is closely working with Qualcomm on this special ARM chip based on its technical specifications, so it works smoothly with the Microsoft Windows 10.

This chip is currently hidden under the code name Excalibur, a term, which has been going around the Internet for some time now. The Microsoft Surface Pro laptop on ARM might be utilized as a benchmark device for other OEMs trying to create their own 8cx Microsoft Windows 10 notebooks. However, despite the rumored interest of the Redmond-based tech giant in Arm silicon and AMD, Microsoft Surface laptops will still be available this year.

This includes the latest Microsoft Surface Pro 7 and the Microsoft Surface Book product lines. The report also highlights that the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 will be released with almost the same look as its predecessor, the Microsoft Surface Pro 6. However, the latest model will be released with a USB-C connector and lacking with the Thunderbolt 3 function.

The Microsoft Surface Pro redesign has been rescheduled and is expected to be available in 2020. The heavily speculated dual-screen Centaurus, on the other hand, is not expected to launch in 2019 unless of course, the Redmond-based tech titan has a reason to justify the need for this kind of hardware.

For those looking for a new laptop, Microsoft is at present, holding a massive sale on some of its best devices. The sale allows you to purchase their products for a 10 percent discount or more on premium laptops.
