The cast of "Space Jam 2," the upcoming sequel to the much-loved movie of the same name, is growing. The latest confirmed basketball stars expected to join the growing cast are Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers and Damian Lillard of the Portland Trailblazers.
Davis and Lillard will join LeBron James, who is believed to be the main character in the upcoming movie. While the film is already shaping to be an all-star basketball cast, James continues to recruit fellow NBA stars to join him. Reports claim that he did talk to Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the recently crowned regular season MVP turned down the invitation.
Aside from Davis and Lillard, several NBA stars were already confirmed to join the cast. Among those who were confirmed were Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson, and the towering siblings Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike, both WNBA stars.
Filming of "Space Jam 2" reportedly started this summer. Just like the great Michael Jordan, who is the main character in the first "Space Jam" movie, James also built a custom basketball court which he and his fellow stars can use while filming. The custom court was constructed at the house of Jimmy Goldstein in Los Angeles.
Filming "Space Jam 2" offers a great opportunity for James to acclimatize with Davis who transferred to the Lakers from the New Orleans Pelicans in a blockbuster trade that rocked the entire league. The trade was seen by many as a consolidating effort by James following a rather dismal season. Before the NBA's draft night, the Lakers and the Pelicans drew up a deal that sent Davis to the former, while the latter received Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and three first-round picks. The trade was viewed by many as one of the biggest and most impactful in the last decade.
Although the Lakers did not enter the playoffs last season, the combo of James and Davis is sure to put the team in playoff contention next season. They may even end up in the Finals.
Following his signing with the Lakers, what followed was a season marked with a lot of disappointment for James. It was at this season that James was not selected to the All-NBA first team for the very first time. With the exception of his sophomore year, it was also the first time that James did not finish in the top-five of the NBA MVP voting.
