At 93 years old, Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne and reigning for over 65 years, crediting her the title of the longest reigning monarch ever. But not once in those six decades has she ever asked palace staff to sign or adhere to a non-disclosure agreement or a confidentiality agreement of any kind.
However, the same cannot be said about her new daughter-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry's wife, who just recently came on the scene and became an official member of the royal family, has been handing out non-disclosure agreements to the staff members in her household that work closely to her.
According to reports, she is probably the most involved and concerned member of the royal family when it comes to matters and decisions to made with Public Relations. Royal experts have even confirmed that she takes everything PR-related seriously, down to the most minute details such as the choice of whether the photos she posts in their joint couple's Instagram account should be in black and white filter or vivid color.
This Duchess takes every little detail of her public image seriously into account, as opposed to other longer members of the royal family who just sit back and trust these matters to their PR agents and experts.
According to sources close to the Duchess, she lets her staff sign extensive non-disclosure agreements because she is increasingly concerned about privacy breaches that might leak to the press. Even the newly hired nanny for her two-month-old son, Archie Harrison, has been asked to sign one of these privacy agreements immediately after she was hired.
Moreover, all applicants who tried to apply for the coveted nanny position and were interviewed but did not cut, were also asked to sign some minor non-disclosure agreements for the duration of their application stage.
Some sources have also reported that the Duchess personally handles the social media accounts to the Sussex's name, like their aforementioned Instagram account. She calls the shots on everything from what to post, when to post it, even down to the captions of her posts which have noticeably pointed out to be spelled out in American spelling.
Despite the scrutiny she has been placed under because of being a PR control freak, Meghan supporters have commended her for her involvement in this matter and taking control of her image. A source reports that it is quite understandable that she wants to be hands-on with this, since she is not at all new to this kind of thing, having been a Hollywood star for some time. She understands the power of the media and the press and how one photograph could make or break a person's reputation.
Whatever other people have to say about it, Meghan Markle will stay firm in her decision to take matters relating to PR into her own hands.
