Queen Elizabeth II has traveled to different countries overseas, and she's reportedly the best-traveled monarch of Britain. But despite visiting different places over the past years, Her Majesty has never been to this particular country, but her grandson Prince William has.
The monarch has reportedly covered more than 60 percent on the world on her state visits, and she's already been to over 100 countries. However, Queen Elizabeth has never been to Israel in the Middle East, while the Duke of Cambridge already has.
The reason why she's reportedly not visiting the country is because of its "complex political situation." In a report from the Telegraph, Queen Elizabeth isn't visiting Israel due to the "never-ending tension" in the region. There is reportedly a conflict between the Palestinian Authority and Israel, which caused unsettlement.
Reports also say the British government usually dictates what countries royal family members will visit, and the region is reportedly considered "politically unwise" back then for Queen Elizabeth to visit.
Prince Charles has been on Israel, but not because of his royal duties. The Prince of Wales went there to attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995 and former President Shimon Peres in 2016.
But unlike his father, Prince William made a trip on Israel on behalf of the royal family. In his Middle East royal tour in 2018, the Duke of Cambridge visited Jordan, Israel, as well as the Palestinian territories. He met Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan, and many were surprised the two watched the World Cup together.
In his visit to Israel, Prince William met Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu. But, a statement from the Kensington Palace revealed at that time the tour encountered "complex challenges" because of "political problems."
However, the statement added that the non-political role of the Duke allows a spotlight to be brought to other people - the culture, aspirations, young people, and experiences. Kate Middleton, on the other hand, didn't join her husband on the Israel visit since she's on maternity following the birth of Prince Louis.
Meanwhile, The Sovereign Grant Report recently showed the royal family's costs of travel. The report revealed they had spent £2.7 million (more than $3 million) on their travels for the year up to 31 March 2019. Prince Charles and Camilla, in particular, reportedly spent £1.3 million (about $1.6 million) on travels for royal engagements, which reportedly increased by about a third on the previous year.
