On the same day, the ME! Artist also released her second single for the album which carries the title, You Need To Calm Down.
Quite amusingly, the majority of her fans are very much thrilled upon the release of these revelations. But while it made many Swifties happy and excited, the latest single has become a very controversial topic in the industry.
As it appears, You Need To Calm Down is perceived as Taylor Swift’s most political single yet in the course of her career. This is because the track is a tribute she created for the LGBTQ community. At the same time, it is also a call out to the homophobic and racist culture that the world has in recent times.
In the lyrics, the word “GLAAD” is largely emphasized. And with this at hand, it becomes an indication that Taylor Swift is directly declaring her support to the community. This is because GLAAD is an alliance organization against defamation for gays and lesbians of today.
Her apparent support for the community has paid off well. Aside from drawing praises and appreciation from the majority of the clique, Taylor was also able to help the organization financially. According to CNBC, GLAAD immediately saw a dramatic increase in donations upon the release of You Need To Calm Down. And it is only sensible for the organization to link the increase with Taylor’s efforts through her music.
Anthony Ramos, GLAAD’s director of talent engagement, revealed afterward that individual donations have risen just after the second single of Lover has dropped. But while he did not specifically mention the amount that they were able to collect after the event, he gladly shared that the organization is really happy to know that Taylor Swift is on their side.
In addition to these amazing results of the singer’s efforts, Ramos further publicized that Taylor Swift made a hefty amount of donation a month before the release of her new music.
But despite the fact that Taylor’s efforts have become beneficial and productive for GLAAD, there is no denying that there are also those individuals in society these days who see the single as a way for the singer to increase profits.
