Many fans of the royal family were witness to the fairy tale wedding of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 and were hoping that the fairy tale would last forever. However, reality interfered, and marital issues came to light when the pair separated.  Unfortunately, as experts reveal more details, it would seem that the royal union was doomed from the start.

According to former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown, the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana was far from a love match as the young Lady Diana Spencer was handpicked by Prince Philip to be his son's mate. Diana was 19 when she first met Charles, who was known to be Britain's most eligible bachelor at the time, reported Express.

It was revealed that before Prince Charles courted Diana, he was connected to Anna Wallace in the late 70s. Royal author Penny Junor, in her book The Duchess even said that Charles proposed to her twice and she rejected him both times.

According to Junor, part of the reason that Wallace was not privy to becoming a princess was that she felt insulted by Charles' close relationship to his former flame, Camilla Parker-Bowles, who was already married at the time. It was said that there were two successive balls that he attended with Wallace but spent most of the time dancing with Camilla instead. Wallace broke things off with the prince soon after.

It was no secret that Charles had a close relationship with Camilla even though she was already married and they were former lovers. Junor claimed that Camilla approved of Diana as a wife to Charles given her youth and her personality. It was said that Camilla, and another close friend of Charles Lady Tryon, were very vocal about wanting Diana to be Charles' wife.

Another royal biographer, Anthony Holden said that an ominous sign for the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana was the venue in which he eventually proposed. He said that the marriage happened at the Parker-Bowles back garden, another report stated.

However, this claim remains unproven since there have also been rumors that indicated that the proposal happened at Charles' Buckingham Palace apartments. There was also one that claimed that the occasion took place in Windsor Castle.

It was reported that Camilla and Charles enjoyed a close friendship at the time of the marriage, but according to the prince, he and Camilla reignited their romantic relationship in 1986 when his marriage to Diana had "irretrievably broken down."
